What are triglycerides and what do they do?
Are they bad for you? How can you lower them?
Is this a dieting thing or an excersize effected thing?
My boss is geakin out about it thinking hes going to have a heart attack when hes 33 and in good shape. I want to clear it up for him
Most fatty acids aren’t free in foods or in the body(most common storage form of fat in body=triglyceride) but are built into triglycerides.
Triglyceride=a glycerol stem with three attached fatty acids.
These fatty acids can be either saturated or unsaturated. Most triglycerides are a mix.
People should stay away from ones with saturated fat because of heart disease risks( Saturated fat elevates blood cholesterol, which clog arteries. )
Unsaturated fatty acids however aren’t so harmful and may even be helpful.
A famous, good unsat fatty acids: omega 3’s from fish, nut, seeds.
unsat fatty acids like olive oil lowers total LDL(bad) cholesterol and don’t raise triglycerides; they also lower blood pressure.
So yes, diet obviously affects triglycerides.
Exercise helps by lowering triglyceride levels(burning fat)
Triglycerides from food and the body’s fat stores give the body energy and keep people full between meals. They are needed for efficient energy metabolism(fat fragments combine with glucose fragments) and to spare protein used to make muscle from being used as energy. Too many triglycerides, however, can be dangerous. The amount and types of triglycerides determine health risks.
What is the diet to lower triglycerides?
